Jason H. Phillips is a painter primarily known for paintings that display incredible depth of field and color. Initially, Phillips' earlier works contained contemporary surrealistic backgrounds often including African textile patterns.

Phillips' current work has become less surrealistic. Using traditional painting techniques, Phillips often reflects socio-political challenges of American urban life.
