Bridging the Gap Project

Atlanta, Georgia - Flint, Michigan
September 24 & 25, 2010, Flint, MI

Bridging the Gap is a collaborative project between Visual Artists and MCs.  This exhibition couples a Visual Artists and a MC working on
common theme in each genre to present in an exhibition/performance.  10 to 15 Visual Artists along with 10 to 15 MCs working together
in their respective genres of art.

The Bridging the Gap project was started as an idea from Brian Hebert of Black Artists Renaissance Society, a nonprofit Artists Collective based in Atlanta, Trade&Row and Raise It Up!  Since Flint, Michigan has been such a hot spot for violence, it was suggested by Karin Pleasant of Trade&Row, a nonprofit organization that develops and supports community-oriented programs that engage current issues through the visual, performing and literary arts.  Trade&Row reached out to Flint and connected with Natasha Thomas of Raise It Up! Youth Arts & Awareness, a nonprofit organization that uses performance arts to help young people explore personal, social, cultural and political issues and engage youth in community leadership and organizing.  Flint, Michigan will host the first exhibition/performance/workshop on August 27 and 28 and December 3 and 4 for Southwest Art Center in the Performance Theater and Gallery in Atlanta.
