This piece was created 2.5 years ago. I felt that the subject of this piece was worth revisiting in light of the increasing gas prices and state of the economy. At the time of creation, the price of gas was $3. and some change. In the preliminary drawing, I had the gas prices set at $4.50 and up. Though $4.50 - $5.00 a gallon was alarming, I felt that those prices were not good enough of an exaggeration for the piece.
Two years later, I’m glad that I increased the prices because GAS IS NOW $4 + A GALLON! The painting still holds its impact. In fact, the painting also suggests that the price for oil increased further or at least to the breaking point of consumers budget. Notice that the gas station has been out of business for some time . Also, everyone is walking or using some other form of transportation
